Michelle Chan in Paris at World Champs

Michelle Chan NZ's No.1 Womens Singles players (College Rifles club and sponsored by Babolat and Best Western President Hotel Auckland and Massey University) played a tough  match in the opening round of the World Champs in Paris.  She came up against Adrianti Firdasari rankdd 21 in the world from Indonesia.  Michelle lost 11-21,16-2 but said that she gained alot of good experience from the game and is making progress in her development on the international scene. Henry and Donna Win National Titles At The Lion Foundation NZ Champs
Michelle Chan, Henry Tam and Donna Haliday (pictured left to right) made the 8 strong NZ Commonwealth Games Badminton Team.  They join Joe Wu (Wko), Danielle Barry (Wtk), Oliver Leydon-Davis (Wko), Anna Rankin (Sth), James Eunson (Sth).  Michelle is currently based in Denmark playing in the tough Danish club league - one of the toughest in the world - and will meet the team before the start of the games.  Congrats to the whole team it is great to see the team heading to New Delhi in India in October this year. Auckland Come 2nd at Wisden Cup
Auckland 1 came 2nd at the Wisden Cup only losing 1 tie to Waikato who went on to win Wisden.  Congratulations to  Waikato in a fitting tribute to the late Peter Icke on winning Wisden and to Canterbury for winning the Slazenger Cup.  Auckland 2 fought really hard and had a close 8 all match to Southland just losing on a countback.  Both Auckland 1 and Auckland 2 teams fought with the trademark guts and determination that are the hallmarks of Auckland rep teams.  Next year Auckland will have 1 team in Wisden and 1 in Slazenger.  Click here for full results of the Lion Foundation Division 1 and 2 Interassociation finals.

Congratulations to Aucklanders Henry Tam (Pacific Club) and Donna Haliday (Mt Albert Club) who picked up two national titles each. Henry winning the mens doubles with partner Oliver Leydon-Davis (Waikato) and the mixed with Donna.  Donna also won the womens doubles title with partner Danielle Barry (Waitakere).  All 4 players are part of the NZ Commonwealth Games team heading to India in October.  Click here for all the results.Both really appreciate the support they have had from their clubs where they also coach and from their sponsors Skinfood. Auckland Reunion - 50th Anniversary of the Gillies Ave Hall

Jeff Robson Honoured By BWF
Congratulations to Jeff Robson who was honoured by the World Badminton Federation with the Herbert Scheele Trophy.  Jeff was one of a prestigious group of people recognised by the BWF and it is a tribute to his service to the sport. Jeff is a former IBF Vice President and had held a number of administrative positions in his long record of service to the sport.  We will be interviewing Jeff shortly to get his personal perspective on the award and to share with you more of his experiences in Badminton and our sport's tremendous history. Donna Haliday and Henry Tam in DJARUM Indonesia Open Super Series
Click here to see the results of Donna Haliday and Henry Tam in Indonesia as they seek qualification for the Commonwealth Games. South Korea Win Uber Cup
South Korea has just won the Uber Cup for the first time in it's history.  Kim Ji Hyun (former world No.2) - who some of you would have seen coaching our top players in NZ recently was assistant coach to the team.  This is an historic win for the South Korean team beating China 3-1. Three Aucklanders Win First  International Titles
Special congrats to Aucklanders Emma Chapple, Stephanie Cheng and Louise McKenzie for winning their first ever International Titles at the Crown Power Tools Canterbury International.  Congrats to the winners  WS Erica Pong (Aus), MS James Eusnon (NZ), WD Stephanie Cheng / Emma Chapple (NZ), MD Daniel Gouw / Arnold Setiadi (USA), MXD Oliver Leydon-Davis / Louise McKenzie (NZ). Win $200 on Badminton Ak Global Photo Competition
You would win NZ $200 in Auckland Badminton's first global badminton facebook competition.  You must have a facebook page and be a friend of "Badminton Ak".  All you need to do is to take a badminton photo send it to us via a message on facebook and post it on our wall.  Only one entry per person - so think hard.  Please note you must be the person who took the photo otherwise it won't count.  Photos must be via our facebook page Badminton Ak and must be in by 10am April 29th.  If you win Auckland Badminton also get to use that photo for promotion purposes.

If you want to become a coach in the program we will train and mentor you for free. Aucklanders into World Top 30
Congratulations to Henry Tam and Donna Haliday who are now ranked 27th in the World.  Henry (Pacific Club) and Donna (Mt Albert Club) are sponsored by Skinfood and BabolatThis is also key for helping the NZ team qualify for the Commonwealth Games in India later this year - so fingers crossed.  James Eunson (Southland) and Stephanie Cheng (College Rifles Club in Auckland)  also broke into the world top 100 so congrats to them also.  Stephanie is sponsored by Yonex   For their profiles click on their names.
