Sarah Gordon the 2007 Convenor of
Selectors of Auckland Masters (and now member of the Auckland Board)
presents a cheque to Michelle Chan for $775. Sarah said
"While it was not a huge amount of money they hoped it would go
some way to helping Michelle". The committee wanted to support
our young players and voted on Michelle as the recipient for 2007.
This money was raised as part of a fundraising event at the 2007
Auckland Masters Championships. Well done to the Masters
Committee: Sarah, Sue Smith (Chairperson), Richard Purser, Garry
Coup, Chris Nisbet, Averill Walbridge (Secretary), the late Allan
Murphy and Ray Walbridge for coming up with this great idea to
support our young players. Our top Auckland (and NZ) players
have to hold down jobs while training to fund expensive overseas
campaigns just to maintain their rankings. In 2007 Michelle
worked hard to get to a number of important international
tournaments which saw her ranking climb from 160 to the current
level of 72 in Women's Singles.
