U17s -
Auckland 1 won the North
Islands today with a great win against North Harbour 10-6 - see
Match # 2 below while Auckland 2 lost in a tough tussle with
Waikato by the same margin 6-10. Congratulations to the
Auckland 1 team for winning the U17s team event and for
qualifying for Nationals along with North Harbour and Waikato.
In the Auckland Harbour match there were some key turning points
- the 3 game win to Carmen Yuen and Charlotte Rashleigh wining
24-22 in the third set and again in the singles Carmen vs Anona
Pak 24-22 in the third. This shows how close this tie was
and how much work both teams will be putting in between now and
Nationals But now is a time for celebration and
congratulations to a very talented well coached and well managed
Auckland side. Auckland is very proud of the players,
Coach Xu Li, Manager Sherilyn Bright, and parent help

Day Two - Monday
July 6th |
| |
It was crunch time for the
teams as they played key group matches today. |
| |
U15s
-
There were good wins today for Auckland 1,2 and 3.
(Auckland 2 played Auckland 4)
Auckland 3 again stood out today with a great win over the top
Waitakere side. With one match to play Auckland were 8-7
ahead so everyone was doing countbacks to check on the number of
games won. Auckland lost the last match in two close sets.
So it was 8 matches all and down to who had won the most
games which Auckland won 20 games to 19. The ability to
win games even if losing the match was crucial to winning the tie.
( 3
game matches highlighted below (see match #1 list below).
In a situation unusual at Palmy both Wellington and Auckland 3
then had to play their next match almost straight away - with
Auckland 3 winning that 12-4. |
| |
U17s -
Auckland 2 had a key match against Counties Manukau 1
today. This was a key match in that is ensures Auckland 2 go through to the
Division 1 play offs to join Auckland 1 and a chance to qualify for Nationals.
There is still alot of badminton to be played and they will have
to take each game one at a time but this was a great step for
the Auckland 2 team. (see match #2 below). Key clashes on
Tuesday include Auckland 1 vs North Harbour and Auckland 2
vs
Waikato
