Victoria Wins U19 NZ Title and Auckland Come 3rd in Tough U19 Teams Event

Congratulations to Victoria Cheng who won the NZ U19 Girls Singles Title at Counties Manukau.  This is a great title for Victoria who has just recently returned from the Singapore Youth Olympics -  Click here.  Earlier the Auckland team had fought bravely to finish 3rd after the top 3 teams all beat each other. Auckland U17 and NH U13 Results - Triple Crowns to Ben Hillier and Samuel Ho

Auckland U17s saw Samuel Ho take the triple winning all three events with partners Riga Oud and Debbie Kwan (NH).  Other title winners from Auckland were BD Riga Oud, GS Lilian Shih, GD Lilian Shih and Maria Masinipeni.  In the U13s Ben Hillier won all three with partners Alan Wong (Wtk) in the doubles and Christine Zhang (Wtk) in the mixed (who also completed her own triple).  To see the juniors honours board for the season so far click here.

Lloyd Elsmore Park Junior Badminton Club Tournament in September

The Lloyd Elsmore Junior Park Club September age group tournaments are now open for entry.  Like other tournaments from our larger clubs these are very unique events.  The standard is closer an Association regional event both in terms of players entering and the quality of prizes and organisation. The age groups are split over two weekends with four age groups covered including an U11s event.

Tournament Dates: Under 17s and U13s on Sat Sept 18th and U15s and U11s Sat Sept 25th.  Entry Closing Dates: U13 / U17 - Friday Sept 10th at 5pm, U15 / U11 Friday Sept 17th at 5pm. Click on the key links below

Northern NZ Win CP Maddern U19 Australasian Teams Title

Victoria Cheng (Lloyd Elsmore Park Junior Club) has just returned from the 1st ever Youth Olympics in Singapore with compatriot Asher Richardson from Canterbury a the first two NZ Badminton reps to ever compete in the Youth Olympics.  Vic has some exceptionally tough games but loved the experience she gained.  Victoria sponsored by Yonex made a TV appearance on Asia Down Under with coach Barry Stevens (click under the video on Chapter 3 - be patient it is the 2nd story in that chapter - click here to view). She lost to Suwarno (Indonesia) 15-21, 5-21, Deng (China) 9-21,5-21, and Winder (Peru) 16-21, 21-19, 10-21.  Click here for the Youth Olympics main page and here for Vics profile page.

Northern NZ Win CP Maddern U19 Australasian Teams Title
Huge congrats to the Northern NZ team which contained Aucklanders Victoria Cheng (sponsored by Yonex), Carmen Yuen and Shawn Zhang - the team won the CP Maddern U19 Teams title taking on state teams in Australia.  They went through unbeaten in the competition which is a great achievement.  They won the final against NSW  11-5.  For full results click here
Auckland Win Both North Island Team Titles - U15 and U17
Congratulations to the Auckland U15 No.1 and U17 No.1 teams who won the North Island age group team title in Palmerston North.  Also to the Auckland U15 No.2 team that finished 3rd and qualified for Nationals (to be hosted by Auckland at Gillies Ave October 2nd to 8th)  Click here for U15s 1, U15s 2, U17s1 results and here for full results
6 Auckland Teams Make Division 1 at North Island Plus U19s In CP Maddern In Australia
In the U15 age group Auckland has 3 teams among 9 teams who have made Division 1 and in U17 there are also 3 out of 5 teams in Division 1.  The other Auckland teams are also fighting hard and there have been some great results with new young players gaining experience in what is a unique competition.  You can follow summaries of the teams and see how they progress through each division by clicking here here or on the Palmy 2010 tab above.  Meanwhile the Northern NZ team is competing in Australia in the CP Maddern competition click here to follow them.
Aucklanders Involved in 3 of the 5 Titles at the NZ U23 Championships
Following on from the Teams Title Aucklanders did well in the individuals section.  New girl Kylie Luo picked up a double as did U23 Captain and NZ International Henry Tam.  Winners for Auckland were WD Emma Chapple  (Ak) / Kylie Lou (Ak), MD Henry Tam (Ak) with Oliver Leydon-Davis (Wko), MXD Henry Tam and Kylie Luo.  For full results click here. Auckland Under 17 Entry Forms
Check out the Auckland U17s - click here for entry form and click here to enter on line.  The format is singles, doubles and mixed and it will be held at Gillies Ave on 21 and 22 August starting at 9am. Entries close Friday 13th Aug at 5pm.
NZU19 Win The Lion Foundation Pan Pacific Series
Congrats to the NZ U19 Team who won the Pan Pacific series for the 1st time since 2005.  They defeated Australia 7-4 having beaten the Singapore Sports School and NZ Associations teams by the same margin of 8-3 earlier in the week.  The Singapore Sports School came 2nd.  It was a very well organised tournament by Badminton North Harbour and Badminton NZ and great to see the Australian and Singapore Sports School teams visiting here.  Click here for Badminton NZ's summary and here for full results.  
 Daniel Lee Wins Triple at Auckland Under 15 / North Harbour Win U19 NI Teams Title
Congrats to Aucklander Daniel Lee for winning the triple crown at the Auckland U15 last weekend.  He won the boys singles, doubles and mixed titles.  Also congratulations to the other winners (Xavier Choi Waitakere BD with Dnaiel), GS Angie Leung (Ak), GD Angie Leung / Rowena Devathasan, MXD Joannie Boualiphanh (Wtk).  Also congrats to North Harbour for winning the North Island U19s Inter-association Teams Title. s Big
Auckland U15 / U17 Rep Sponsorship Forms
f you would like a family / friends sponsorship form let your team manager know as soon as possible.  You can get forms that friends / family can sponsor you for a few dollars each (for Palmerston or for the quiz).  Company forms - you can also get a letter for company sponsorships for individuals from your manager also.  Please note if getting company sponsorship make sure any logos are cleared with Cliff first to ensure they are legal otherwise you could be disqualified from the event.  Any questions call Cliff on 021-155-7227 / email cliff@auckbad.co.nz.

Badminton Making News In Schools

Congrats to JB NZ Winners Lilian and Maria
